Former intelligence operative, James "Beck" Becker and his CIA code-cracking wife, Beth, have retired to Beck's hometown of Red Wing, Minnesota. Their retirement has already proven more exhilarating than they'd expected. But they could never have anticipated the new source of crime and intrigue in their small community. A Mexican drug cartel has set up shop a few miles down the road. And they're not just selling. The new meth production facility is the largest north of the Rio Grande. To complicate matters further, Terry "Bull" Red Feather's former comrade-in-arms has come to visit. And he's on a mission. His decades-long assault on the cartels is coming to a head with a plan to blow up the Minnesota meth plant ... if he can find it. He wants Bull to help. The Beckers' challenge? To dismantle cartel operations before a full-blown drug war breaks out in Red Wing.

Click here to visit the authors site and read the first chapter.

So what did I think . . . The Covert Element will have you on the edge of your seat from the beginning. Betcher does a great job of weaving an intriguing and thrilling story about current events or issues and making the story seem believable without being 'Hollywood'.

So, how do I rate . . . The Cover Element as many stars as allowed. I really enjoyed it and all the "Beck" stories. And, I am waiting for the next one. And, well I just can't wait for a 'Beck' movie.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. I would recommend it actually for any age group. With parental guidance I think even a young adult would enjoy any of Betcher's work.

In case your wonderin' . . . don't worry if you haven't read any of the other Becker stories but I would recommend all 3 books. Each story stands alone and even if you start with #3 you'll still enjoy it!

So, check out the authors site let him know I sent you over!

Or run over to Amazon and order all 3 . . . I mean don't you need something to read while your Waitin'.

Boy have I been . . .

. . . doin some readin'.

O.K. Ever since, he's been slipping up at his job as warden at an upstate New York prison. It makes him the perfect patsy when a cop-killer breaks out--with the help of someone on the inside. Throwing himself into the hunt for the fleeing con, Jack doesn't see what's coming.Suddenly the walls are closing in. And in the next twenty-four hours, Jack will defy direct orders, tamper with evidence, kidnap the con's girlfriend--and run from the law with a .45 hidden beneath his sports coat. Because Jack Marconi, keeper of laws, men, secrets, and memories, has been set up--by a conspiracy that has turned everyone he ever trusted into an enemy. And everything he ever believed in into the worst kind of lie.Reviews for "The Innocent" (formally, As Catch Can)

And a few Editorial Reviews:
"If you want a novel that runs wild like a caged beast let loose, Zandri is the man."--(Albany)"Sensational...masterful...brilliant."--New York Post
"Probably the most arresting first crime novel to break into print this season."--Boston Herald"
A thriller that has depth and substance, wickedness and compassion."--The Times-Union (Albany)
An Engrossing Thriller...the descriptions of life behind bars will stand your hair on end."--Rocky Mountain News

Here's a link to the author's site for info. about his other work.

The book was offered for review by Pump Up Your Books. But no one anticipates the terrifying turn of events that forces him to quarantine everyone in the Capitol building. A terrorist group calling itself “Genesis” has unleashed WRX3883, a deadly, highly contagious virus, into the building. No one fully knows the deadly effect of the germ except for the team responsible for its development—a team headed by Allaire, himself. The only one who might be able to help is virologist Griffin Rhodes, currently in solitary confinement in a maximum security federal prison for alleged terrorist acts, including the attempted theft of WRX3883 from the lab where he worked. Rhodes has no idea why he has been arrested, but when Allaire offers to free him in exchange for his help combating the virus, he reluctantly agrees to do what he can to support the government that has imprisoned him without apparent cause.
Meanwhile, every single person in line for presidential succession is trapped inside the Capitol—every person except one: the Director of Homeland Security, who is safely at home in Minnesota, having been selected as the “Designated Survivor” for this event. With enemies both named and unnamed closing in, and the security of the nation at stake, Griff must unravel the mysteries of WRX3883 without violating his pledge as a scientist to use no animal testing in his experiments…and time is running out. Tense, thrilling, and entirely plausible, A Heartbeat Away will make you reflect, wonder, and be truly afraid.

What I thought of it?
I was drawn in. It was an interesting story fitting all the descriptions as boasted above . . . tense, thrilling a shocker. . . and a few more like suspenseful and engrossing. It is a long book. Plan yourself a long weekend to read it because you won't want to put it down!

Here's a link to the authors blog for a little more info. But for this reader the cover price of $34.95 is way more than I think an average shopper would spend. And, way more than I would even consider. It is well put together and I think the attention to detail is great. The photo's are all black and white. The text is rather large so it makes me wonder if it is large just to make the book a little bigger to make it seem more worth the price.

I did not read this book. I did look at the photo's and, maybe if I had taken the time to read it I would have been able to offer a little more than just my opinion of the cost.

Here is a review I found on Amazon. . . He has obviously spent many hours of research to produce this excellent book that studies Russian history by examining the development of the architecture of that mysterious country. Parvaiz takes the reader as a fellow traveler on a journey that begins in the year 988 and ends with present day Russia. Much of the history of Russia...

This book is available at Amazon and I noticed when I check on it for the link that there are only 4 left in stock!
It is also available at Barnes and Noble and directly from the publisher.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free directly from the author through Bostick Communications. But this is one work of fiction that I enjoyed so much that I want to do whatever I can to help the author. This is another one that I'll call a 'sleeper'. I mean that in a good way one of those kinds of books only available (as far as I know) at Amazon

What So Proudly We Hailed was a fun, suspensful book to read.

It is all about one families struggle to survice after a nuclear attack on the U.S. From the back cover: One family, one old boat, one test of faith to stay alive.

Here's a complete synopsis from the author's site:
Imagine what would happen if eighty percent of the United States were without power for three or four months.
All banking and commercial transfers locked up; funds inaccessible.
Wholesale and retail distribution shut down; no computers to manage sales.
Passenger and freight lines grind to a halt; no electricity for the fuel pumps.
No cell phone or landline service; systems down indefinitely.
And the worst aspect of all; a total breakdown of law and order.
This is the setting of James Howard’s novel, What So Proudly We Hailed.
The unthinkable has happened; a limited nuclear missile strike has destroyed the power grid beyond any immediate repair. Jason Ribault, sensing the societal breakdown to come, flees with his family in an old cabin cruiser to wait out the worst of the chaos behind the deserted barrier islands of the South Carolina coast. There they listen to unfolding events on a short-wave radio, not the least of which concerns a hostile political influence that seeks to seize control of a nation struggling to right itself once again. Pursued by their own immediate dangers, the family is pushed farther and farther into the desolate salt marshes where they find other families in hiding. Eventually, anxious to unite with a family member in danger, they turn back into the chaos, to see the full extent of what has happened to the America they knew.
Electric with page-turning suspense, What So Proudly We Hailed is an eye-opening book every American must read.

About the uthor: James Howard is a veteran of the US Navy where he worked with nuclear weapons. He has also spent the last twenty years working in various aspects of heavy industry, including electrical power generation and distribution, and has learned much about our nation’s power grid. These experiences, combined with his devoted study of Bible prophesy, world history, and Islam, make him uniquely qualified to write this novel.

A few endorsements from the Authors site:

Praise for What So Proudly We Hailed -
James Howard has taken some incredibly deep and complex Bible prophecy and with a masterful touch of the pen has unpackaged them in a gripping, modern day story that makes the concepts easily digestible and palatable to today’s readers.
- Michael Lewis, Senior Pastor, Cathedral of Praise church, Charleston, SC

I recommend this book…excellent story…timely and well thought out.
- Kirk Lowe, Screenwriter, Vice President of the Lowcountry Christian Fiction Writers

James Howard has an amazing way of holding a person’s interest. What So Proudly We Hailed is superbly written. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
- Mike Lowry, Associate Pastor, Northwoods Assembly Church, North Charleston, SC

Product information:
TITLE: What So Proudly We Hailed
AUTHOR: James Howard
PUBLISHER: CreateSpace
PAGES: 280
ISBN: 978-1453672433

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free directly from the author through Bostick Communications. Take the first step in living at God's pace.

Personally this reader is seeking to do just exactly that Walking with God.

Interested? You are a Wanderer or Wonderer. A Wanderer drifts from idea to idea. Wonderers approach life with a sense of purpose. They are aware that something is not complete.
. . .The Believer enters into faith by a simple confession of belief that Jesus is the answer.
. . . The Example is a Believer that has matured spiritually. The life of an Example reflects more of Christ and less of themselves. They submit their will to the Lord’s will. Their approach to the world changes, their minds are changed and the way they live changes.
. . .The Teacher is the coach, mentor, the helper, the trainer, the educator. He or she helps you develop and keeps you motivated; giving you the background and the foundation you need to take your life and faith to the next level. The Teacher helps to mold and shape a person into the image of Christ.

. . .The Imparter is a person that God has poured His anointing on. He uses an Imparter to do His supernatural work.

About the author:

Shaun Alexander was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks after a standout football career at the University of Alabama. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, in 2005 he set an NFL record by scoring twenty-eight touchdowns. In the same season, he set a team record by gaining 1,880 rushing yards and leading his team to the Super Bowl. Today, Shaun travels the country speaking to business and military audiences, at sports camps, and at churches and Christian conferences—appearing in front of thousands of people. He is a gifted communicator and Bible teacher who points listeners toward exceptional achievement by aligning their lives with God’s perfect will.

And, here's the 700 interview.

When researching this book I found that it is really widely available. Basically at almost all Christian Book Stores.

I found that you can go here and find links to the retail stores. It is also available at Amazon,

Borders and Barnes & Noble.

And lastly what I thought? This one I am on the fence about. I agreed with the 5 stages that Alexander brings out but there are a couple of other theological thoughts that frankly I am just not in agreement with.

A few questions I always ask . .

Would I give this book to someone?

Is this a book that could be considered envaglistic? Could I give this to a non-believer?

Is it theologically sound?

And, since I can't answer the last with complete confidence. Then I have to say that I am on the fence on this one.

What will I do with my copy? I think I will hold onto it and maybe give to another friend and get another opinion and maybe have my questions answered.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group as part of their Blogging For Books bloggers book review program. (read on)

The story opens when the main character deals with the sudden death of his father. And then suddenly the story moves into the trial. The different characters (the witnesses) throughout the trial testify about either their belief or non-belief. There are a lot of different characters.

One imparticular the atheist Metal Worker shares his testimony in Chapter 13. Some readers might be bothered by the language that is used in this chapter. But for me I was able to read on past it and continue with the plot. The language used in this chapter made the character real.

For me I think that once again Betcher did an amazing job of developing the plot and characters into a great fictional story.

But, with this one I applaud him because it shared a message.

Why not check out the first chapter. That was four years ago. Now, Bridget dreams of bringing her father and six siblings to join her in America. She also dreams of marrying a God-fearing man, and when she meets the tall, handsome Lance York, it seems her dream might come true. He's English, however, just like the cruel landlord who oppressed Bridget's family in Ireland. Could there be more to him than she realizes?

Kate Ties the Knot - Seven years of widowhood have made Kate Flynn a strong, independent woman who even operates her own dressmaking shop. But when her eight-year-old son, Adam, has a run-in with a burly shipbuilder, she realizes the necessity of some godly male influence. Adam starts working in a warehouse owned by John Joseph O'Keefe, better known as J. J., who looks out for Adam and feels a growing attraction to his young protigi's mother. Kate's emotions are as tumultuous as the ocean as she wonders what the future will hold.

Follow the Leader - The Civil War has destroyed everything Valerie Carter held dear. Struggling to come to terms with her emotional devastation, she accepts a teaching position in Freeland, Maryland, and her heart is gradually warmed by her students' affection. She also finds herself attracted to Paul Collins, a young widower with three children who has a childlike faith in Jesus Christ. Will Paul be God's instrument to free Valerie from the bonds of bitterness?

I visited the authors blog and found that she also has written some great sounding Contemporary Romances. And honestly I have to say that I would really rather read those if I ever get the chance. Honestly I am not a fan of Historical fiction.

And honestly I did it make it through this collection. I did try both Bridget's Bargain and Kate Ties the Knot. I didn't make it to the third title. I think at another time when I don't feel stressed to read them and have a few hours to devote that I would really enjoy all three.
And, in fairness to the author I will make another attempt and I'll write a follow up.

I think that all of the stories would be appropriate for young adults and the more mature reader too. I know that the girls in my halfway house will really enjoy this book. I will be donating my copy there.

If your a fan of Historical Romances then I know you'll like these. And I'll even tell you where you can purchase this collection. Tales of the Heart is available at Barnes and Noble and Christian Book (dot)com.

Here's the product info:

Format: Paperback
Number of Pages: 400
Vendor: Whitaker House Publishers
Publication Date: 2010
Dimensions: 8.25 X 5.32 (inches)
ISBN: 1603741674ISBN-13: 9781603741675

Blogger doesn't seem to be cooperating with my little Marathon of reviews. Doesn't this book look like fun? But before I tell you what I thought I have to say Welcome to my second marathon Book Review post of the evening. The first post is here over at My Journey Back.
I thought it would be fun to write a bunch of book reviews on all three blogs on Black Friday for all us guys that aren't so much into the shopping all night! Me. I spent the wee hours of the night reading.
And here's my thoughts on . . .
Alice J. Wisler's Hatteras Girl . . . I really enjoyed it once I got into it. It did take me a few chapters. But, I am glad I stuck with it. It was a fun and sweet story with just a little suspense in it. The author leaves the reader with just a few questions about just what is going on with the owner of the Bed and Breakfast that the heroine Jackie wants so much to buy.
I have to say that I kind of really 'got' Jackie as she struggles through the everyday life of a single woman looking for and waiting for "Mr. Right". She struggles with well meaning family that seem to spend too much time setting her up with would be candidates. And, she struggles with helping her best friend with her 2 year old son. I loved the sweet spirit that Jackie represents. And, I could relate to her 'getting ahead of God' as she wonders and ponders God's desire for her life and the Bed and Breakfast that she dreams of owning.

From the back cover:
Jackie Donovan prays for two things: an honest, wonderful man to marry and to own a bed-and-breakfast on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. In the meantime, she works for Lighthouse Views, writing articles about local business owners, and intrepidly goes on the blind dates set up by her well-meaning but oh-so-clueless relatives.

Here's what the author says about the book:
My third novel, Hatteras Girl, will be released by Bethany House in October. The cover has been completed and I'm excited. So what is the novel about? Read on.There are two things that journalist Jackie Donavan dreams about--marriage and owning a bed and breakfast in Nags Head, NC.But why is the bed and breakfast she desires deteriorating, and why won't her relatives behave so that she can go out with the handsome realtor? Filled with quirky friends and relatives that help and hinder Jackie to and from her goals, Hatteras Girl, is about uncovering the truth while finding the way to your dreams.
For more info. you can visit the authors blog. Click here.

This is one that I would recommend for any age audience. It is easy enough to read for the late teen through the older adult.

Hatteras Girl is available at Amazon and Christian Book (dot) Com.
Book Information:
ISBN:
978-0-7642-0732-7
ISBN-10:
0-7642-0732-6
Dimensions:
5.5 x 8.5
Number of pages:
320
Publication Date:
Oct. 10
Formats:
Paperback

Thanks for stopping in for my marathon Book Review weekend. This little book and I mean little (it fit in a Christmas stocking) includes 51 pages divided into three different stories about fictional character
William Spencers life and his attitudes and experiences during the Christmas season.

The first story begins in the 1930's when young William is disappointed because he didn't get the shiny snow sled he saw in the store window for Christmas. Which happens to be is birthday also.

The second story takes places in 1963 young William is grown and has a family of his own.

The third story takes places when William is a senior living alone after the death of his wife.

In each story William figures out one lesson which seems to be the central point of the entire book and that is happiness is not a condition but an attitude.

Personally I didn't like the book. I understand the authors intent I think but I thought the stories in each of thier own ways were negative. They were not necessarily boring because I caught myself looking for the rainbow at the end in each story. But I didn't find that rainbow.

Maybe I was expecting something different. I expected a fun, happy Christmas story in a book that I could give as a gift. What I found was saddness. Not the emotion you want to feel at Christmas.

I did some research as I usually do and there are a few other reviews out there. Most were non commital. Just including the basic info. about the story. If your interested you can find them on google.

This book is listed in the category of gift books and I guess that is what I was expecting.

The cover price is $14.95 and personally I wouldn't even consider it. Of course, she’s not alone –she has Toto, her best friend. That is, Toto used to be her best friend. But in Oz, Dorothy spends more time talking to a cat than to her. And Toto finds new friends, too. Maybe, he should just bring his wolf friends back to Kansas instead…

. . . Would any self-respecting dog allow himself to be carried in a basket?

Absolutely, as long as Dorothy put food in it first!

This is really a cute book. It is a childrens book and probably a few adults would enjoy it. It is on my list to buy for my daughter in law to read to the grand kids. I know they would enjoy it!

It's on sale right now at Amazon. If your in Maryland this week stop by A Likely Story and meet the authors. I actually had a tough time with the first few pages. The book started with the first few chapters talking about doctors visits and dignity. Personally I would have put those chapters in the middle of the book and replaced the first ones with the chapters about working out or dealing with hair coloring or something.

It is a fairly decent length book of 242 pages and it is a funny read. I think if my mother was a reader she would enjoy it. I know my sister would and I know lots of women and bloggers that would enjoy the book.

From the back cover: Wrinkles, Waistlines, and Wet Pants is an irreverent look at aging. Fashion, self-improvement and social etiquette are thrown out the window in this hilarious book that disregards good taste and dignity. The author disproves the theory that fifty is the new thirty with anecdotes, some of them actually true.

But personally. I just thought it was ok. Lot's of parts are really hilarious like the whole incident at the fitness center in Chapter 16 and the chapters about dealing with pets were really funny also. I thought chapter 2 The Intervention and then Chapter 3 Beauty Abounds at Allure n Appeal were quite funny.

But as the back of the book describes it is irreverent and disregards good taste and dignity.

Personally would I buy it for myself? I would have to say no. Personally would I buy it for my sister absolutely. She would love it! Personally would I buy it for my sister in law. Well she would absolutely love it. But personally I wouldn't buy her anything. If she was nicer to me Yes I would definitely buy her a copy. Personally would I check it out of the library? Maybe.

So if you know some really crazy women that love humor. I personally think anyone that love to read humor or watch comedians would love this book. I don't think you have to be 50 or older to appreciate it. My husband actually might even enjoy it. I'll have to ask him to check it out.

You can purchase at Amazon here's the link. Here's the link to the authors website for more info. I was excited to get the opportunity to finally do a review on a cookbook. And I was lucky because this isn't just a cookbook. It is filled with fun stories of the authors experiences as 'city girl' living in an isolated mountain 'get a way'. Well maybe isolated isn't such a good description. Read on and I'll explain.

This fun book is filled with 60 recipes ( I didn't count that is what the publisher said). I did read and lingered over the recipes. Some I might try and some I probably won't but it was a fun book to read. It was easy too because there are no chapters just basically short stories of 1 or 2 pages between the recipes.

I know you'll enjoy it if you go to Amazon or Barnes and Noble to purchase or it is available through the publisher.

As I always do I did take the time to check out the authors website and here's what I found.

Isn't this just the prettiest little table. Do you see the tea pot and lovely little cups. It looks like it must have been set around Thanksgiving isn't the turkey darling? Well if you near Mary's Place which is located in the Wenatchee National Forest in Naches, Washington you can visit and make an appointment to stop in for tea. There is also a gift shop. So you see it apparently isn't really isolated.

Here's the book info:

192 page

Trade Paperback 5 1/2" by 8 1/2"

Memoir/cookbook

Pub Date: 2010ISBN: 9780615348377

Published by Northwoods Publishing

One In a Million Priscilla Shirer give a way

Another great book by Priscilla Shirer. I have to give a 5+ for the drawings. The illustrations are happy and colorful. I mean just look at Dingle's face. I enjoyed reading this little story about a dog that is aware of his owners needs. Reminds me of Mr. Ed because he can talk too. Dingle's story is about his desire to help his owner who isn't so sure she needs a service dog. This is a great little story book. I received the paperback version but there is a hardback version available. Dingle is such a special dog he has his own website here. He does allow his author friend to tell a little about herself....Hello, I'm Audrey Kinsella, author of Dingle: The Helpful Ice Cream Cone Delivery Dog.This is my first children's book, though I'm a long-time writer and medical research librarian, who has written many helpful health care articles and books on telecommunications, the elderly, and the disabled in the last 20 years. I've become progressively disabled with multiple sclerosis (MS) during these years and have learned, with great difficulty, how to accept help from people and from caring animals. It's time to share that experience with others who are just as resistant to accepting any help or support.I would recommend this book to anyone. It is a great book to read as a family and discuss the obstacles that hinder people that have disabilities. Dingle The Ice Cream Cone Delivery Dog is available at Amazon and Borders. Not a rehash of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom, it's a totally original work and lands the main character in modern day Manhattan. This version gave the Phantom character a level of depth generally missing from what we see in Broadway plays. Kristine was both, surprising and amusingly different from what one would have expected. Cliffhanger ending left me wanting more. "

Thinkin' I might have to order this one. What do you think? The author Barry Hoffman has a website here that gives some great info. and background about the books.

This was my second opportunity to read books in the young adult category. I have chosen to offer to review in this category because I work with teenagers that are in prison. And they have a lot of time on thier hands to read.

As in all my reviews I want the reader, the author and the publicist to know and understand that I read every book completely to the end unless I state otherwise. And that I give a my own personal candid opinion about the book. My purpose is to invite other readers to consider purchasing the book.

I have to say in all honestly about this book I am torn. I personally found it a little daunting. The book jumps from the present to the past and back and forth througout. For me it was a little hard to keep up and a little frustrating. Just as I began to understand what was going on and get into the character the story jumped 200 years. (give or take a few years)

It really took me to the end before I really got the entire picture and figured out what was going on. There were lots and lots of characters in the book. I did feel that the author did a great job of describing the characters and the surroundings. Even though it was fantasy it was really easy to picture.

Here is a quote from the back of the book. . . "This is a rousing adventure novel that addresses the nature of personal responsibility and cultural prejudices while entertaining the reader from the first page to the last."

I did find the reading to be rather easy but I would not recommend it for anyone younger than 15 I just think the story is too complex to understand. It is clean and as wholesome as a fantasy story can be. There is no bad language or offensive scenes. I don't even think that the fighting or battle scenes where too explicit. This might be a good book to read as a family if a younger reader was interested and not able to read it or keep up.

I will be giving my copy of this book to the halfway house where I volunteer. Here's a link for more info. about my volunteer work. I know that they would enjoy reading it.

I would have no problem allowing my children to read this book.

I did a little research and found a little more info. here at the authors site.
I also found some info. about the author on the publishers website here.

You can purchase at Amazon here is the link.

This book was offered for this review by the author through Bostick Communications.

The 19th Element by John L. Beck is at it again fighting crime in Betcher's newest novel The 19th Element. This book is the 2nd in the James Becker Thriller series. You can go here to read my review of Betcher's debut novel. I loved it too. I was thrilled that Mr. Betcher enjoyed my review so much that he gave me a chance to read his 2nd book.I loved this one too. The story is about attorney James "Beck" Becker who just happens to be retired from government service. He and his wife Beth (who is also retired from government work) attempt life in the small town of Red Wing Minnesota. Unfortunately for Beth her husband seems to struggle with small town lawyering. I loved what she said at the end of the book..."Babe. You can't keep playing Rambo. I like our life here in Red Wing. And I'd really love for us to grow old together." Her voice was playful but poignant."Doll" I said. (reviewers comment. I would love to be called 'Doll'. ) "I can't stop being who I am. And part of that will always involve taking calculated risks. Would I be the same husband if I spent my days cooped up in that law office, or my evenings in front of the television?" I loved this one part to me it just so describes Beck. I love his character. He is charming. He is trustworthy and as described by Beth I see part Rambo and part ; oh darn who is the Bruce Willis Die Hard character? You know who I mean. And well maybe a little Mel Gibson thrown in.Betcher does a great job of telling a story. There is suspense and thrill and humor all rolled into one great book.I have to say though this book was a little more on the technical side than the previous book. And for me it was a little disappointing. But that is just me. What I missed was the "Beck" escapades. And the 'Beth' moments. But I was please to be introduced to one of their daughters. Of course Bull (Becks friend and stalwart companion in crime fighting) and Gunner (the county Deputy Sheriff) all played apart in solving the crime and getting the bad guys. And sorry to disappoint but I am just not going to give any more of the story away. You'll just have to buy the book. Trust me you'll enjoy it.I would highly recommend this book for all audiences. There was no foul language. And the only bedroom scene was at the very end and was not suggestive or explicit at all. This book and the first in the series (no need to read book one first) are available at Amazon.Go here to purchase The 19th Element. Full of the wonder of love, true love. It surprised me on every page. I loved it!” - Deborah Raney, author of Almost Forever and the Clayburn Novels

I couldn't say it better. I loved this book. If I had my ratings system established this book would definitely get a 5 plus stars. I couldn't put it down. As mentioned in the above quote it was lovely.

A little about the story:

Marnie Wittier has life just where she wants it. Quiet. Peaceful. No drama. (from the back cover). Suddenly in a moment her quiet peaceful life suddenly becomes turned upside down when she receives a letter telling her that her sister has died leaving Marnie the sole guardian of her 15 year old nephew Emmit. (who Marnie didn't know existed) Marnie ends up having only a few days to prepare to receive her nephew and when he arrives Marnie is surprised to find out the boy has Downs syndrome. And if things couldn't be worse Marnie is forced to deal with her past when she has to begin communicating and working with her sisters estate lawyer Taylor who just happens to have a past with Marnie.

Shades of Morning is a beautifully told story. It is a sweetly beautiful love story. It is a beautiful story of faith, grace and redemption.

Here's what the author says: You’ll find threads of faith and wonder in all of my books. My latest release, Shades of Morning, is the third of my Love Stories With a Twist!. I think you’ll be captivated by this story of fun, quirky Marnie who finds herself the guardian of a Down syndrome teen. Come, meet Emmit … and fall in love!

About the author: Marlo Schalesky is the award winning author of seven books, including her latest novel, Shades of Morning, which combines a love story with a surprise ending twist to create a new type of novel that she hopes will impact readers at their deepest levels.

Marlo’s other books include If Tomorrow Never Comes, Beyond the Night, Veil of Fire, a novel about finding hope in the fires of life, Empty Womb, Aching Heart- Hope and Help for Those Struggling with Infertility, and Cry Freedom.

She’s had over 600 articles published in various Christian magazines, including Focus on the Family, Today’s Christian Woman, Decision, Moody Magazine, and Discipleship Journal. She shares with us her abhorrence of bigotry and prejuidice using these fictional characters to tell this poignant love story between two seniors finding love at a later time in life and she uses her talent for writing poetry to intersperce powerful emotion throughout the book.

As the back cover teases the story is about an older woman who meets and fall's in love. Natalie whose husband dies ends up searching for love and meeting Randy on line. They meet and begin a relationship although they live states apart.

The story is easy to read. It is written from Natalie's perspective in first person throughout most of the book. Each chapter begins with poetry. Personally I didn't feel that poetry added much to the story. But I am not a fan of poetry. I really didn't have any difficulty actually reading this book but personally I really didn't like it.

What really bothered me most about the book was that the author really spent all her time on a soap box about bigotry and yet she negated the fact that Natalie ended up in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship.

For me personally this was a big negative.

In fairness because I really don't want to write a negative review I did read a couple of other reviews. Stewart. This is the first book in the Science Fiction category that I have read and I loved it.

From page one I was captured and could not put it down. I was actually fascinated by the title when asked by Mr. Stewart through Bostick Communications to do the review.

The story opens when the main character Jake books a fishing trip with his teen age son Nathan. (The two have been somewhat estranged since the recent death of Jake's ex-wife. ) Jake's plans go awry when they get more than they bargain for on the simple trip.

As the story unfolds the cast of characters are developed and you begin to become part of thier lives. And as they realize thans they have indeed gone through the Bermuda Triangle I found myself feeling sorry for them as they realize that they have jumped from 2005 to 2283. Jake, Nathan, Mason (the boat Captain), Jaun (the crewman) struggle with thier own seperate feelings as they realize that they will never see thier families again. Fellow passenger Allen Cranston has a whole set of his own thoughts and feelings when he realizes that they have jumped into they future.

From the back cover:

On a deserted shore, and ththey discover they are in the right place at the wrong time - the Florida coast nearly three-hundred years in the future. What follows is a journey of enlightenment as Jake discovers the shocking historical events leading to this new reality and the love lurking under his nose. It all combines for a savvy time-travel thriller that will keep you guesssing right up until the shocking finale.

My thoughts:

I found Through The Triangle to be an enjoyable read. It was easy to read. There were quite a few characters but I didn't have any problem keeping them straight. I enjoyed the story. The suspense, thriller and romantic aspect made it an enjoyable read for me.

Recommendation:

I would recommend Through The Triangle for any age group. The young adult reader would enjoy it as much as a mature reader.

This book is available at Amazon click here to purchase.

Many thanks to Mr. Stewart for allowing me the pleasure of reading his book.

Thanks to Bostick Communications

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sherryreadsnwrites.blogspot.com/2010/06/through-triangle-by-cp-stewart.html' title='Through The Triangle by C.P.
